Developmental Disabilities Intensive Support Program
-
Students are placed into our DD-ISP by the TDSB through the IPRC process. We serve students from the ages of 14-21 years old.
-
Our program's focus is on the 6 strands of the TDSB's alternative curriculum:
Functional Academics
Communication
Social Skills and Self-Regulation
Experiential Learning
Activities of Daily Living
Motor Skills
The development of real, hands-on life skills is central to our program and is the foundation to day-to-day work that might include culinary skills, money math, work skills, reading signs and menus, communication with spoken words, sign language, and/or assistive technology.
-
Our students use our multi-sensory room at least once a day to help them regulate their emotions and energy. This space features calming and tactile lighting like fibre optic curtains, gross motor equipment like adult trikes, and flexible seating like a glider and crash mats. It has been developed by our program staff in collaboration with the occupational therapist and speech-language pathologist who serve our school.
-
To support the practice of life skills at home, each classroom is equipped with a stove/oven, and two of the three rooms are equipped with a washer/dryer. We have several carts with life skills materials and the practice of real life skills is the foundation of our ISP.
-
Our students and staff go on trips often, whether it's to participate in the TDSB's Division 6 sports competitions, the Special Olympics, or excursions around the West Hill community and Toronto.
